Surface Packets are tools used to change the surface of the garden.
Surface packets will not run out of seeds or material to cover the surface of the garden. A surface packet cannot be applied to cracked soil, water, or mud. The cursor can be resized to cover a smaller area to make thinner lines of a surface. There is a separate surface packet for each surface type that can be placed in the garden, excluding soil which is made by removing the surface using one of the existing surface packets or using the Shovel, hard soil which is not obtainable in Viva Piñata or Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise and is placed as Crazy Paving in Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise, and Water which can only be made using a shovel with the Pond Head or stronger.
There are two or four kinds of surface packets depending on the game. The Grass Seed Packet and Long Grass Seed Packet are in all games, while the Sand and Snow seed packets are only available in Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise, as these surfaces can only be found in this game in a regular garden.
Unlocking Surface Packets[]
“ | I see you've caught a sand critter - might be just the right time to give you this sand packet. It works just like the grass packets (and you can find it in the same place on the menu), so it should be no problem for you to use. | ” |
–Jardiniero when unlocking the Sand Packet. |
Surface packets are acquired throughout the course of gameplay or purchased from Lottie. Sand and Snow packets are acquired by capturing a piñata from the Dessert Desert or Piñarctic then transferring them to the garden respectively, regardless of if it was a variant piñata or a piñata exclusively found in the respective region. When they are unlocked, a modal alert from Jardiniero will appear notifying the player has unlocked the Snow or Sand Packet.
