Sumo wrestling is a sports game practiced by Chippopotamus, Whirlms, and Fergy Fudgehog that first appears in Sumo Tsunami.
Generally, sumo wrestlers wear a specific hairstyle, having black hair tied up into a specific knot. A few wrestlers have short drooping facial hair as well. Sumoville wrestlers are also known to wear loincloth like diapers most of the time.
According to a manual that Fergy Fudgehog reads, sumo wrestlers, at least in Sumoville, are pampered with daily tea and back rubs and eat colossal amounts of food a day to grow blubbery and heavy. The manual also claims that giving the diaper of a current wrestler to another person forces them to fight in their place, a fact exploited by Fergy to get around Langston Lickatoad's plan to send him to a party.
Apparently, the diet sumo wrestlers eat causes a piñata to be filled with something that looks like rice or some other white blob food, instead of the normal candy expected.
Sumoville[]
A sumo village named Sumoville appears in Sumo Tsunami. Various Chippopotamus train and live here, and a ring is placed in an arena here. Shiraishi Chippopotamus and Drumstick Chippopotamus live here, along with various other Chippopotamus. Shiraishi claims that Fergy is the first non-Chippopotamus that wanted to become a sumo wrestler in Sumoville.
Sumo village[]
Later, a sumo village inhabited by Whirlms appear in Bringing Up Cluckle. The ring here is placed in the middle of the outdoors of the village. However, the village gets wrecked by Cliff Dragonache while on a rampage from getting bullied by his Cluckles siblings.
Trivia[]
- Unlike real life, the Chippopotamus wrestlers can knock other wrestlers into the air by mere collision, and they also do body crashes into each other in mid air. The Whirlm wrestlers aren't shown to do this, merely pushing into each other on the ground.
- The loincloths that are worn in Sumo Tsunami are referred to as diapers. In real life, they are not diapers, and are officially called mawashi.
