A label is an emblem created by a player which acts as the player's emblem or avatar icon in Viva Piñata and Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise. In Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise, the label can't be changed. Players can customize their own label using the Label Designer. Each label is made of three separate layers, the background, the border, and the logo.
Each Piñata has a label which for most species of piñatas is placed on the piñata's butt. The label applied defaults to a blank label if the piñata came from the wild, but does not change to a player's label even after it becomes resident or if it was found by Gretchen Fetchem and put in the garden by her. However, if the piñata is then evolved, it loses its accessories and gains the label of the player. Also, piñatas born from an egg will also have the label of the player.
Crates sent to other players or the same player will also have the player's label on it.
In network multiplayer, each player's label is used as an icon for representing them in both the menus and in the player list that is shown on the left side of the screen.
In the TV series, most pinatas are shown with a generic "VP" symbol.
