The gardener level icon as shown in the menu in Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise.
“ | You've leveled up! You filled the petals around the clock, which means you've taken a step close to becoming a truly great gardener. All kinds of things happen when you become a better gardener. Costolot's store has opened. You can buy some paving, some fences, a couple of items to decorate your garden with and some seeds. Seedos will have some new seeds in his pouch too. | ” |
–Leafos, alert when reaching level 2 in Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise |
The level the player is currently at determines what items the player can obtain or purchase.
As a player obtains Awards the player gains experience points which are marked by some of the twelve "Experience Petals" circling the clock turning from white to blue in Viva Piñata or becoming an opaque blue in Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise. Awards can only be obtained once, thus the amount of experience that can be earned is limited. Blue beads indicate additional experience points required to level up. When all petals are blue and blue beads are present, one of the beads will disappear. When all petals are blue and no blue beads are present, the player will level up. In Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise, experience is measured on an experience percentage instead, and the twenty white petals turn blue based on the percentage left to reach the next level, with no beads showing.
Leveling up usually increases the amount of items sold in Costolot's Store and other stores. Leveling up may also make Jardiniero give an upgrade to the Shovel. Usually, leveling up will make more piñata species available to obtain and discover, and unlock new seeds for plants to be able to be planted.
The player's level can be checked by going into the menu.
“ | Your gardening is improving! Well done! You just seem to get better and better. | ” |
–Leafos, alert in Viva Piñata, or Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise after a certain level, or when controlling the voice in audio options |
In the original Viva Piñata the maximum level possible is 108. In Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise the maximum level is 196, however this level can be reached before getting all the awards. In Just for Fun mode in Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise the player is always at level 999. In Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise the maximum level is level eleven which is obtained by gaining all of the awards.
